Burst or leaking pipe

Do now: Shut off the main water. The main shutoff is usually where the water line enters the house (garage, laundry room, or a box at the meter near the street). Turn it clockwise to close. Sewer backup

Do now: Stop using all water in the house — no flushing, no showers, no laundry; every gallon you send down goes onto the floor. Keep kids and pets away from affected areas, and don't use chemical drain openers (they won't clear a main-line blockage and they make the job hazardous). Water heater failure
